Richard Scott Blog - 8th June 2025

Monday was first day back after the long trip abroad on business, so it was time to brief the guys on all the exciting things to come.

Cold and sunny. The weather man says otherwise. I was parking the car in the garage and took the opportunity to take a photo of the house and the flowering aloes.

Nonetheless, it was business as usual.

Six new Graffiti piece out this week. Tammy.

Mandy.

Carmen, Uma, Louise and Ana.

Ana, Uma and Tammy.

Gold Mandy with a silhouette.

Tuesday was awesome, up early and on the way into town with Joanne.

My plan was to drop the BMW in for a service and do a good town run.

The best part was the rain. We must of brought back the European weather with us from Lugano, if you can call Lugano European.

Bo-Kaap in the rain. Bo Kapp is a small suburb of Cape Town. The name Bo-Kaap is Top-Cape. Basically, naming the area as it is kinda on the top, and/or above the city on the flank of Lions Head.

Anyway, I dropped Joanne then the BMW and Chad picked me up.

We were thinking of a quick 2026 European Exhibition meeting At Shift and remembered Bertus opened his new spot 3 days ago and decided to try his coffee.

Espresso in a cappuccino cup.

It was good to see Bertus as well and have a quick catch-up.

After that, I popped into Mervyn Gers to see if the ceramic vases were ok. I last saw them three weeks ago.

Mervyn Gers never ceases to impress me with the operation. Check out the plates stacked in the oven for baking.

They all survived. I did cover them correctly this time so that they would dry out slower which reduces cracking.

Unwrapping the one vase. You keep them wrapped in plastic so that the moisture does not evaporate too quickly.

Ready?

Ta daaaaa.

Inspecting the second piece.

So, I’ll pop in later in the week to pick the ball up and continue with these.

I also need to chat to Densil in the printing department about the colour's I want to apply to them.

Somehow I was experimenting with excess clay and stumbled on the idea to make some "My Girl" tiles. More to follow.

After checking in on the ceramics, I popped in to see The Church. Danilo, our friend and collector, in Lugano asked me last week to go checking in and give him some advice on some small repairs to the church while he is in Lugano.

The beautiful church turned into a home.

Spot the SCOTT's.

Then it was off to pick up the BMW and fetch Joanne.

She was out with Craig to visit Mrs. Schneider when I got there so I caught up on Instagram and the blog.

Pineapple juice and hard work.

Joanne and Craig arrived back, and it was good to catch up with Craig while Joanne packed up to go home.

It was nice to finally get home. It was my first Cape Town trip in a month.

Hendrik had lit the fire. I checked in with him on our own house repairs and the vegetable garden and our earth worm farm.

Everything was going to plan. I was a bit worried about the worms with the onset of the cold weather. I need to do some research on whether they can weather the cold or must I move them indoors to the garage or the likes.

Then it was time to check in on the studio. Fran’s was doing an amazing job managing the production.

Time for a quick supper of Joanne’s famous lentil bolognaise sauce she made Monday.

Joanne had it in a wrap with salad and I had it on olive oil soaked rye bread. It was delicious. We were both so hungry.

I decided to make a big pot of my famous vegetable soup with ingredients from the garden while Joanne used the rest of the bolognaise sauce to make a lasagna.

Volla, there was enough food for the whole family for a few days.

I also fried up some chicken to add to the vegetable soup for the meat eaters in the house.

Joanne and I both caught up on some admin. You know the kind where you have to justify all your travel expenses to the auditors. Joanne got out the glue and sorted out the slips while I made notes on what I had to do for the auditors on Wednesday.

Then it was time for a cup of tea and a log on the fire and a movie on the couch. We were both still adjust to routine after our three week trip. It was nice to plonk yourself down in a familiar environment. We didn’t last long and we’re in bed before we knew it.

That has other consequences, as I was up at 4am again typing this to you right now.

So now it’s 5am Wednesday morning and here we go.

A cool piece I did with gold leaf. It was originally a reject and then as I always do, I turned it into art. This piece is going for auction at Ashbey's next month. Look out for it.

Thursday was like a typical day that I’d like to have every day.

Up nice and early. Slow drive to town. Coffee and catch up at SHIFT. Then run a few errands, buy’s some art supplies as the shop. Then head to Mervyn Gers to do some ceramics.

Quick STOP at SHELFLIFE for some supplies.

Final touches.

Scraping away excess clay.

Lunch time. Joanne made me a yummy lunch. Lentil Lasagna, and a salad from our own garden.

Eating like a worker, as Angelina put it.

Thursday afternoon we did some shopping and the supplies for the weekend. We haven’t seen all the kids whilst we were away, so we opted for a Sunday Brunch and stocked up on kids favourite breakfast stuff.

Then it was home to check in the studio, take a few photos and have an early supper.

Joanne and I settled in with a cup of tea and some snacks for a movie.

We both only lasted till 8.30 where the last three weeks of travel fatigue was still holding on to us.

Nonetheless we actually finished the SIRENS series.

James, from Kaizen in Surrey, send us all on the KAIZEN FAMILY GROUP a cool picture of Manesh, a new artist to the Gallery.

Joanne was working from home Friday, so I only got up at 6am for a change.

Routine kicked in with double espresso and Macadamia nut milk cappuccino.

We did what we needed to do and headed out to get some supplies.

Best ice-cream in the world. Almond nut. No cow's milk.

This will last us a few weeks.

Saturday we decided to brave a walk on the beach. It was cold but nice to put our feet back in the sand.

I made a few chicken curries for supper which turned into lunch as Richie popped in for a late lunch instead of supper.

The fire was going, and we chatted till late catching up. Richie was telling me all about the flying options and the hours he has accumulated and the hours he still needs to do.

Sunday was nice to be home kinda day. You know the feeling. It rained all night. I was up at 5am putting the fire on. The rest of the day was typical Sunday stuff.

Sunday feelings.

Thank you for reading.

Until next week.
