Weekly updates on what happend in Richard Art life in the last 7 days

Richard Scott : 10 July 2022

Tuesday, I popped in to see John at Hout Bay Gallery to catch up and finalize the Road Sign launch. We decided to launch end of July – first week of August. I’ll send you the exact dates closer to the time. John loved the project and idea and we think its gonna be a winner.

John and Me

John’s gallery is really looking good now that he is fully focused on art. I’m loving the work of Tim Dempers. In one series he uses kelp to create beautiful abstract pieces and in another series he shoots the artwork at a shooting range to create a unique effect. I love them both. I also spotted a Paul Du Toit. Paul was the reason I sold the equity in my business in 2000 and took up art.

Afterwards Angelique, Chad and I popped in to see Henry at the gallery in Sea Point. We had a coffee at Schoon and discussed Henry’s new gallery space opening soon in Kloofnek Road.

While we driving back there were some roadworks on the road at Bantry Bay and I asked Chad to take pictures of the signs for inspiration for the show.

Wednesday I had a bad day. I just chilled on the couch and made lots of notes and did lots of research. I think it has got to do with moving to the next chapter in my life. Kids leaving home and moving out of Melkbos. Nonetheless, my mentors tell me it’s the right move and I am going to see a professional to understand and get the reasoning and structure.

I finally managed to get some work done on Wednesday in the studio. The metal brackets on the back of the road works pieces came off so it looks like I’m going to have to use rivets to mount them on like they do in the real world.

Thursday we packed the car and headed to Greyton for 4 days with the kids.

We did a walkabout town with the kids and I got chatting to Jill the owner of Once More while the girls were shopping in her store. Strangely enough she too knew of my art. After thrifting, we popped into the local brewery and had a beer and some lunch.

On the way back home we bumped into Alister and his wife Tabatha, dear friends of ours. Always good to see Alister.

The famous Alister King

We took the kids on a nice hike on Friday.

Not sure of the bird on the Protea

Saturday we went to the market and I started talking to the locals as I usually do. I met an interesting guy called Richard who moved here in 1990 and never looked back. He is a builder and his wife is an Estate agent with Greyton Estates. Joanne and I went to go see her to discuss options of buying a house or a piece of land and building a house.

We also popped into The Greyton Trading Post and Joanne purchased a nice Kilim rug and a Scandinavian styled Chair. We are sold on Greyton and so the planning begins.

The house we rented on Air BNB had a pizza oven so we made lots of pizza. Not bad for a first attempt. Now all the kids want is a pizza oven. LOL I even cooked the millies in it.

Corn on cob as they call it in England

Thursday we played 30 Seconds which Daniella, (Deans girlfriend) and Dean aced us. Friday we played Pictionary and the kids beat us as well. Saturday night we played Monopoly Richard Scott style which ended badly and no one likes my rules but I got my 2 cheap Hotels up in time.

Today we took a slow drive back and stopped at Peregrine for pies for lunch. They do make the best pies in the world.

We back home now. Home sweet home.
