Richard Scott Blog - 21st December 2025

Monday was kinda the start of our three week holiday.

We did have a few appointments in the studio and lunches. Joanne booked Cape Diem Lodge for two nights as a birthday treat for me. We first had a lunch appointment at Melkbos Kitchen. Then we headed to the lodge and checked in.

Our favourite little dine spot in Melkbos. Try it.

Our view.

I forgot to post this last Sunday. It is my birthday cake Angelina made.

We chose to enjoy the lodge and chill on the balcony a bit.

Daniel and Bianca came over for a birthday celebration drink.

Tuesday was breakfast on the deck and then a nice long walk, 5km, all the way to go see Henry at the Sea Point gallery. It was nice to walk all the way from one side to the other. You see things you don’t normally see when you are in a car.

So cool to see Daniel and Bianca from Cape Diem chose local for their crockery.

Beautiful photo of the sea from ‘The Promenade’

If you know, you know. My Italian friend Wayne taught me this.

After Henry we Ubered back to the lodge as Joanne booked the next birthday experience at Il Leone for lunch. It was great to enjoy Chef Daniels food. Joanne invited Daniel and Bianca with from the lodge. It was a wonderful treat to celebrate with them.

Then it was another nice long walk back to the lodge where we’re took a nap as Joanne booked the new Amura and chef Guillermo Salazar for supper at The Mount Nelson.

My beautiful wife at The Mount Nelson and an artwork by Georgina Gratrix called " Pink Pop"

All dolled up and ready to try out the food at Amura.

We opted for the Scallops and Abalone for starters and the Whole Fried Catch of the day. Well presented. Was delicious and reminded me of being in China at one of them sea side restaurants where you get to choose your fish live.

Kiss the fish. Here is what AI says: ""Anglers kissing fish" refers to the practice of anglers, particularly those practicing catch and release, kissing their catch before releasing it back into the water. It's a gesture of respect or a farewell, sometimes seen as a way to show appreciation for the fish's fight."

Wednesday we woke up at the lodge real early and we’re sitting at the breakfast table at 7am. We both went for the orange juice and fruit salad to keep up the vitamins.

Our Breakfast view.

Joanne did some admin while I caught up with the blog before we headed home. We both just chilled all day.

New Collectors Charmaine and her husband Ruan. They were so ecstatic to have the studio tour.

Thursday was interesting. It was nice to wake up in our own bed. I was still on the tail end of that two week throat infection while Joanne was in the thick of it.

I used the time to clean the studio as Hendrik agreed to pop in and clean up around the house for a day’s extra pay while he was on leave.

At least the grass got cut and the garden a good watering. Hendrik even washed all three cars. Chad was here so while Joanne helped him with some forms Hendrik and I got stuck into taking out the yellowing of Amy’s headlights in her Nissan Micra. They make the headlights out of plastic and after a while they go yellow. But we sorted it Hendrik and Richard Scott style with a bit of acetone and then Marine polish.

Then, as mentioned, I cleaned up the studio. Fran’s normally does it, but he is also taking a well-earned break. There has been a good run of Studio Tours over the last month, so you have to keep the table clean in case we get a collector knocking on the door.

Richie and a client. This photo was proudly sent to me by Francois. You know the pilot that flies that Huey Helicopter you always see around Cape Town.

Some new Keyrings dropped off by Richie.

I also have a client who asked me a favour and to Richard Scotify his 2025 Japanese Formula One program, I guess he spotted me doing all this  ‘Circular’ work on anything I find. I did a few drafts.

1st Draft. Next comes Tammy with a red Bikini.

Then Chad left, I packed the gold Joyride piece into the back of the VW Caddy, and we headed out to the opening of Henry’s new gallery in Sea Point next to NAKED restaurant, both of us not feeling well, but there was Joanne dressed up beautifully supporting me, supporting Henry.

Henry’s new space is simple, white and very modern. Reminded me of Gagosian in London. We were early, dropped the painting and had time to pop out to the famous Grand Pavilion for a soothingly cold Strawberry 🍓 Daiquiri.

We were back in time to meet and greet all the guests. We only lasted an hour and headed home to finish binge watching Tulsa King.

Whoaaaa. Henry got the new Magenta and Pink Tree prints framed. Check this beautiful Gold Joyride piece.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, today, were “No car out the garage” days. I did spend a lot of time in the vegetable garden which resulted in Joanne making a vegetable soup entirely of ingredients from out garden, Potatoes, onion, celery, carrots, spinach, kale, fennel and garlic.

Tastes better than it looks. Joanne decided to make Spinach balls from the left over spinach pulp, which I would of ordinarily feed to the worm in the worm farms.

Turning our till slip from the Mount Nelson bar into money.

It's Sunday afternoon and we both feel lazy and somewhat rested. Joanne is doing Milan research while I type to you. Time to sign off and make a cup of tea.

Thanks for reading and watching.

Until next week.
