Richard Scott Weekly Blog - 28th June 2026

This week is pretty short on art as its month end and we all know what a successful artist needs to do to be successful: keep their books in order.

Here's a cool photo Rod sent me of us laughing together last week at the "Clash of the Chefs" event.

Had to share this with you. It is a cool photo took as an add on to one of the 1/1000 daily posts I do on Instagram. Here is the text from the post:

36/1000 - Circular Series

Red Orgasm

There were many test and reject prints with this artwork as we tried to get the gold right.
It took many attempts.
So ,on this reject print I masked out Ana again and got one of them MAXX graffiti cans that empties itself in 10 seconds. A full extra-large can of graffiti spray paint in 10 seconds is a lot of paint. You have to do it in a small, boxed area, otherwise everything turns silver with the overspray.
It seemingly does not run when applied on the first layer. Only the second one. After the silver layers were applied I decanted some red spray paint and dripped it on.
I added the final touches with the “r” signature stencil.

Look whats growing in our garden. Morels (Morchella species). I recently got in some pine bark and there must have been seeds or spores on the bark.

Tuesday was when winter really set in. It was wet and cold and awesome English weather. All I was hearing on the social feeds and news channels was how the Brits and the French were complaining about the heat. You have to laugh.

I decided to go sort out a leak at Joanne's flat. Hendrik and I jumped into his car and we were off. He neglected to tell me he has to stop every 5km to fill up with water as his radiator was leaking. After 3 goes I decided to head back home and sort out the leak another day.

I did manage to do some more work on the “I ❤️ LUGANO" painting. Frans also applied some white paint to a splash painting I was doing over an old painting.

I had a good telephone catch up with Jay from Walker Bay Art Gallery in Hermanus. He is a great sound board for Bronzes and my art in general.

Wednesday I was not feeling great so I made a fire and a nice cup of tea and decided to use AI to redo all my brochures of the small collections and bodies of work I have done in the last 25 years.

Here is a list:

My List of Catalogues and Brochures.

When the guys came, I got Hendrik and Chad to go forage for large logs to keep the fire going over winter. We applied for a permit to do so.

I also had time to render the large bronze sculptures on the computer to see how they would look. Also, for client presentation purposes.

Richie rendered the initial image for me in the 3D print program he uses to print the PLA (Polylactic Acid) prints.

The rest was easy using AI.

By Friday I had rendered all 10 in different patinas for presentation.

I was so into it that I didn’t go into town until Friday.

First attempt was a disaster.

2nd attempt the sculpture is a bit distorted.

Getting there.

High polished version.

Thursday was the same, make a fire, chill on the couch and update catalogues.

Angelina came to visit for the weekend which was nice.

Friday I was up at 4am. In fact, I was up all week at 4am. Blah blah blah.

So here I am catching up with you on the blog.

I have been invited to a TEG tour today to go see how certain The Excellence Group operates its various companies in Cape Town.

Nonetheless it’s now 5.55am and I’m gonna get up and put on the coffee machine and start a fire 🔥 to get the heart of the house going.

Proof I was up early.

Friday morning Circular post. Richard Scott tractors on an apple box.

The TEG tour was quite fascinating. Chad and I got to go around all of the companies in the Excellence Group. They focus primarily on home fittings. All types. Richard the owner is a smart guy and has a brilliant concept going. We got to meet 20 other people on the tour and did some great networking. We were treated to snacks and coffee along the way and finally to some champagne and lunch. I made four good contacts and even someone who may be able to help me with marble sculptures.

I only got home at 6pm after leaving home at 7am. That’s quite rare for me. Hee Hee.

Chad and myself enjoying the tour.

State of the art Italian Kitchens only please.

Saturday we got up late and Joanne went for a run. I was still not feeling myself.

We potted around the house and then decided to go to DECOREX. It’s a annual show where companies exhibit their goods. Henry was there from YOU & I GALLERY, so we popped in to see him.

Joanne also spotted one of here client's displaying her products so we chatted to her as well.

Then it was home to chill by the fire and read a book. Angelina was still home so that was nice to catch up with her. She was off to a games night around 4pm.

My favourite, Orange sponge cake. Handmade by Angelina.

Sunday was sit by the fire. I was supposed to go swap out the Artwork at MANOS restaurant but the weather man said NO, as it was 100% chance of rain. And raining it is. It's 1pm and I am typing to you sitting by the fire listening to the rain on the tin roof.

James from Kaizen Art in UK representing me at the UCCS SUPER CAR AND ART SHOW.

James with all his artists.

Fennel soup for lunch

So, I will sign off.

Thank you for reading and watching.

42/1000 - Circular Series

Match Box Girls

I was walking through Makro one day to buy a few bits a pieces (MAKRO is a bulk buying store) and I saw a huge box of matches for sale. Just the week before I did an artwork on one small little match box and thought how cool it would be to do a series.

So here is one of them done on the outer wrapping that 10 small boxes come in.

Did you know: Match manufacturing started in 1884 in South Africa by many different companies. By 1905 the competition was so great that many companies could not compete. In 1905 the remaining companies amalgamated to form The Lion Match Company Limited. Lion Matches have become an iconic South African brand. Best known for the  red and yellow safety matchboxes with the Lion on the front.

During the war, the Durban Lion Match factory was repurposed to manufacture munitions, an operation that continued into the early 1960s.

Lion Matched produces 30 million match sticks per day. With 42 matches in each box, that's 7 million boxes a day. Lion Matches control 98% of matches sold in South Africa.
