Richard Scott Weekly Blog - 11th October 2026

Monday I caught myself researching solving the Rubik Cube. I have become a little obsessed with solving it.

Other than that, it was a typical Monday. I spent most of the day on catalogues and helped Hendrik complete the White Mandy for the large bronze. Eugene from The Bronze Age Foundry got back to me with pricing so now it’s a go for PRE-RELEASE.

I took this photo for an art dealer interested in the large works in my private collection. In the photo you can see the maquette of Mandy ready to go to the Foundry to be cast in bronze. Very exciting.

Tuesday it rained. It was nice as the garden needed it. I decided to start my video series. I started with the history and story of the 3D prints. I realised I should have started with the Muizenberg Worm Farms as I owe you a look-see. So, I will do that this coming week.

Sending Richie my daily pic. English weather here Richie :)

With the rain came the flowers.

3D print videos ready to go into production.

Wednesday, I decided to post the two Candy 75 x 75cm works online. I haven’t done that in ages. I also mentioned I would tell the story here about The Green Cat. Basically, as mentioned before I am recycling my old paintings. So the green cat below became Candy Ana. I have painted over 4500 paintings since 2001. Over 4400 of them have been sold and gone to collectors over the years. I have a small private collection. Most of these pieces are very unique i.e. the ones that did not sell at exhibitions and galleries for some reason. I did a retrospective of these works in Johannesburg in 2010. So once in a while when I go down to the wine cellar and pass these work, I will pick one out and paint over it.

Lime Cat from 2008. Do you see the paintbrush stuck in the paste? Those were the days when I carved the image into the paste while it was still wet.

If you look closely you will see the carved out cat in the background.

The back of the painting. I will restore it with a special technique.

Thursday I made the effort of going into town. I had a coffee and then headed out. It was strange how my philosophy of “Put a log on the fire” works. It’s a saying I have which means book that flight to England and go see the collectors and galleries and the fire will start burning again. I bumped into an art dealer who asked me for my latest catalogue as she had a collector interested in my large works. How strange is that. Always "Put a log on the fire".

I popped out to get bread for the week from our 2nd favourite bakery and send Danilo a pic of his Church in the Background.

Still looking brand new. What great memories renovating it for Danilo.

I also decided to paint over smaller 30 x 30cm works. My Candy Car became “My Candy Mandy” and My Candy Aeroplane became “My Candy Ana”.

Joanne got the pic.

Friday was a work from home day for Joanne which was nice. I potted about in the garden and then had to pop out to go collect some Metal Base from the supplier. I use the metal base for my gold paint. It is the purest form of Acrylic you can get. I need to do a series of Gold Tree’s for the Cape Diem Lodge Series.

Saturday morning, we prepped some food and Shombie and his family were coming over for a visit and a braai. It was great to see them and host them. Shombie wants to emigrate here from Germany. I am gonna start a business with him here in South Africa to help him with that part of the process.

Happy 50th Birthday Shombie.

Today, Sunday, is a lazy day. Joanne is making bread while I catch up with the art world.

Last Sunday's lunch on the deck. Steak and egg and roasted sweet potato.

Time to make a margarita and play some backgammon on the deck.

Thank you for reading and viewing.

Until next Sunday.
