Richard Scott Weekly Blog - 27th July 2025

Ok so it looks like I’m gonna start a construction business for three months of the year in our South African winter time.

Like the Italians take three months off, I think I’m gonna do the same with my art and get into some therapeutic construction work.

None the less the week was filled with The Church construction and not much art.

A photo from last week. Will send some new ones once done. Such a beautiful building that we have the honour of restoring.

We did manage to finalise the details for the annual winter Sabrina Love charity auction taking place this Wednesday.

I also instructed Richie to do another set of the small 3D prints to take to Ruan at the Lost Wax Foundry to get them little bronzes going.

Monday I helped Angelina do a minor repair on her car and she came with me to check in on the Ceramics at Mervyn.

Morning Starbucks with Angelina. Showing her the ropes. LOL.

The latest piece in the making. Vase 5.0

Zoom Zoom.

Vases 1 - 4 so far.

That was my week until  Friday when Joanne and I headed to Franshoek for the weekend.

The visit was centred around a wine blending course with Ricardo at Cafe Du Vin. A wedding gift from Carl and Claudia  from March.

That was very interesting, I must say. Both Joanne and I learnt a lot.

Meet Ricardo.

Meet Richard.

We also introduced Carl and Claudia to Colmant and there beautiful brand.

Hanging out with good friends Claudia and Carl.

First Draft mock up.

We got to eat crepes and drink good coffee with them at the Saturday morning market.

We stayed at Bo La Motte wine farm and got an upgrade to the Lake House. I can highly recommend them on AirBnB.

Got to spend three beautiful days relaxing with my dear wife and soulmate Joanne.

Our view. Cliche time: The picture does not do the view any justice.

Joanne and I contemplated Franshoek as a retirement destination.

Meet Sima,  our waiter at Yama, Franshoek. This man is going to go far in life. His knowledge of the food and wine was extensive. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

A small Richard Scott shop in the village would make a killing as it was the middle of winter and the town was buzzing with American accents and the likes. All the restaurants were packed. It was great to see.

We headed home Sunday, but not without popping in the see the genius himself Paul Gerber of Colmant.

Paul had just arrived back from a champagne conference in Australia. Paul also showed us all the new exciting changes happening at Colmant with the new owners Jan and Isabelle.

The new bottle design is next level. I’ve never seen such a beautiful champagne bottle before.

After we said our goodbyes to Paul, we were off home in our Toyota.

It was a catch up Sunday afternoon after a hectic weekend.

Plans were made for the week, and we settled in for a lazy Sunday evening.

Thank you for reading.

Until Next Week
