Richard Scott Blog - 15th February 2026

Monday night it rained all night long. The rain was well overdue, and I slept like a baby. It didn’t stop raining until Joanne and I got to SHIFT coffee shop at 7am for a coffee the next morning.

Rain on its way, Sunday evening.

1 hour later.

We live in paradise.

I may have mentioned it before, but as a kid, my dad turned the old maids quarters at 147 Kwartel Street, Birch Acres, Kempton Park Johannesburg, in my own personal bedroom away from the house.

At first it was cool, but I did get scared as a young kid. The Johannesburg rain and thunderstorms made me feel safe. More so the rain on my tin roof. This is actually why I designed our current home in Melkbos with tin roofs all around.

It's loud, comforting and takes me back to a safe space as a kid.

I forgot to post some Sunday afternoon photos from last week.

Manu bought Danilo a set of my Espresso Cups as a gift.

Signing the box. Use the glasses Richard!

Ta daaaaaa.

I forgot to post some foodie pics from last week's Braai. Flaming beef sausages. I always start with Boreworse, then crayfish, then steak.

Bit of a showstopper when you do it in cast iron steel pans on the coals.

Danilo's Lobster Catalana. Best ever.

Back to Monday Morning:

Ok, coffee ended at SHIFT at 7.15am as I was in buzz buzz buzz, Monday let’s get going mode.

I had a list of 30 odd things I needed to get done before 10am.

Joanne and I did take the time out to have a coffee together in a ceramic SHIFT cup, as she only starts at 7.30am. I opted for my usual Long Espresso and Joanne her usual Cappuccino with Macadamia milk.

So, I got 20 odd boxes ticked and then I was off to see Rashieqh at ORMS to sign off on some prints.

Rashieqh put them all in a tube and I was off.

I should have outsourced my prints to ORMS long time ago.

200 x 100cm Candy Girls Print. What a beauty. Off to Johannesburg.

Always very nervous when I sign prints in case you make a mistake.

Then I was off to Danilo to drop off the artworks Jo and Manu bought on Saturday.

Danilo made me an espresso, Italian style and then I was off to Hout Bay Gallery.

I asked Jo and Manu what they were up to today (Monday) and he shrugged his shoulders.

I said, “Come with me to Hout Bay Gallery”. They jumped at the opportunity, and I took them on a mini peninsula tour to Hout Bay via Kirstenbosch and those beautiful trees lining the road.

John was entertaining a client, and I chatted to Theresa while Jo and Manu wandered around the gallery.

Tour Guide Richard Scott. Manu and Jo.

10 Minutes and we were back on the road back to Danilo via the coast this time for a full round trip of the Cape Peninsula.

There were lots of car crashes as the rain was horrendous in the night and had obviously washed away all the diesel and oil. We even saw a beautiful gold Ferrari crashed on the coastal road. EEEEEEEK.

Llandudno.

Jo and Manu offered to buy me a Apéritif, and we stopped at Newport for a yummy Orange and Carrot juice. They decided to walk back to Danilo's from Moulle Point while I was off to 87 Bree Street for lunch with Andy and Fran at 1pm.

The beautiful Mouille Point Lighthouse.

I thought I did Mouille Point Light house and realised I haven't.

So, here is Cape Point Light house.

I will do one in the next week.

It was great to see Andy and Fran again and enjoy a yummy ramen with them at Yatai Ramen Bar.

Before I knew it, it was 2.30pm and I had to go fetch Joanne.

We headed straight home and Joanne made a delicious lentil bolognaise sauce for Angelina and a yummy vegetable soup, for us for supper.

Tuesday I stayed home and caught up in studio. There was a lot of prints that needed packing and Frans was not well, so Hendrik, Fernando and I got stuck in.

We did start off with sorting out some of the Muizenberg Beach Hut Artworks.

Hendrik cut a series of planks to length and we were off.

I then spent a good amount of time doing the new Cape Town prints in all the different colours and sending them off to ORMS for printing.

I also spent an hour going over the Ilios Travel Guide tour wording in their offering to the public as a tour of my studio. I am so looking forward to that.

Here is the wording:

Travel to Melkbosstrand for a private visit to the working studio of renowned South African artist Richard Scott.

Hosted personally by the artist, this intimate experience combines a guided studio visit with an inspiring and candid 45-minute talk and open Q&A. Richard shares the real journey behind building a full-time international art career since 2001—exploring creativity, persistence, reinvention, success, failure, and the business realities of being a contemporary artist.

Internationally recognised, Scott has participated in 109 exhibitions worldwide, including 29 solo shows, with work shown across South Africa, Europe, the UK, and the United States. The session is energetic, practical, and deeply authentic, offering rare behind-the-scenes insight into both the creative and commercial worlds of art.

Ideal for cultural travellers, corporate and leadership groups, collectors, students, and anyone seeking a meaningful, never seen before behind-the-scenes artistic experience.

Angelina was home so it was nice to have someone in the house potting about the house. I made us some pasta for lunch. I had Joanne's yummy roasted tomato sauce and Angelina had Joanne's yummy lentil bolognaise sauce.

I sold a pool pillow to a client in Pretoria all from a Social Media post Angelina did while away the weekend at Up the Creek festival. That was nice as I haven’t really been punting products for a while.

Angelina sent me a photo of her and the pool pillow at the event.

Joanne came home and we caught up, ate supper and then played backgammon on the couch. I am not sure what’s going on with my backgammon game, as I keep losing, this time 3-1 to Joanne each time.

Nonetheless, it is still more fun than competition.

We had another early night after a long beach walk.

On our beach walk we noticed lots of wind surfers. Quite rare as Kite Surfing has seemingly become more popular. Spot the south Easter wind whipping up the clouds on Table Mountain.

Zoom Zoom.

Wednesday, I was supposed to go to town but decided to stay home and help Angelina paint her mirror and side table. She is at that age where you start sanding down furniture and painting it. I remember that stage well.

Workers. Measuring up the Muizenberg Beach Huts Artworks.

Using the same wood for the French Cleats.

Angelina having fun spray painting her table legs pink. Spot the cat t-shirt from 2010.

Lunch. My wife's delicious roasted tomato sauce. Nomm Nomm.

Thursday was also a studio day.

Decanting white paint.

Applying the paint to the wood. These are the little white Beach Huts.

Experiment No.1

My Thursday Lunch, a layered cheese and tomato sandwich on a cheese bun.

Maybe one day Bertus Basson will serve this treat at one of his restaurants. Remember to add salt and white pepper on each layer.

I started the 2026 "Dairy Sketch" series.

The series is where I create a daily diary sketch.

It is basically a daily experiment to see what comes up.

Friday was a chilled day. I told the staff to take the day off as Frans was still feeling under the weather and Hendrik was building a new house.

Saturday, Joanne and I chilled, took a long walk on the beach and played backgammon on the deck all afternoon.

This is what we see when we wake up each day.

Sunday was the same, this time we walked all the way into town to get some Almond milk for Joanne and to get in some good exercise.

I am about to launch the latest Shombie Bus WhatsApp auction to raise funds for the POT LUCK community in Khayelitsha.

The one where Shombie helps feed 100+ children every day.

Long Sunday morning walk to Town. 8km.

Finally, up on the wall in New York. Yes!

Spot the cappuccino cup.

So, I will sign off and focus on the Shombie Bus Auction.

Thank you for reading.

Have a super duper Sunday evening.
