Richard Scott Blog - 8th February 2026

Monday was a great day to be alive. I got out of bed with a great buzz, and we were off to Cape Town. I made Monday my “Find a Location for the April Dubai Show”.

I dropped Joanne off at her office and sat myself down at SHIFT coffee bar downstairs and got stuck into it. Danilo’s son, Marci, offered to help and after a quick call he set about scouting locations as per my request. Then I did lots of errands around town before picking Joanne up again and heading home.

Iris, a new collector sent me these two framed images in the Steinberg Golf Club ladies locker rooms. Such an honour to be there permanently. All thanks to Selwyn Eagle.

My Colourful Golf Day.

My Candy Golf Day.

I took a photo of these three works at Sea Point Gallery for a collector.

Tuesday I was in studio all day prepping for Dubai. Just head down stuff grinding away.

My Tuesday desk.

Best desk in the world.

I made myself lunch. Joanne's roasted tomato sauce with pasta and cheese. My wife really looks after me and my tummy.

Wednesday I said goodbye to Joanne and did my admin. At 8am, when Hendrik rocked up we headed out for the day. First stop was Hout Bay Gallery to drop off some Diary sketches and meet a long standing collector of my art, Karim and Elke from Zurich.

Meet Elke and Karim. Elke is one of my biggest fans and purchased seven more works while there. I am looking forward to hosting them in the studio on the next trip from Zurich.

Marika, owner of Hout Bay Gallery, , acquired this work as soon as she saw it.

Marika is instrumental in the success of my career. She's like an old school headmistress that you have as a beacon in your arsenal.

When Marika asked me to paint cats in 2003, I hesitated.

She gave me a look that only my mom and top business women I dealt with over the years gave me.

It's a look that says "Richard, do as I say".

And so, to this day I still make money from painting cats.

Thanks Marika.

After that it was off to Muizenberg to go collect some wood for the I Love Muizenberg series.

My Right Hand man Hendrik. Always by my side and never says no. I did teach him that. Here we are sharing a delicious lunch before we head off for some hard work. The food was delicious. Lucky Fish and Chips, Muizenberg. Spot the STONEY.

7/10 on the South African Richard Scott Fish and Chips Scale.

Looking for gems.

Got em.

These pieces of wood can tell you a lot of stories.

Where are your glasses Richard? Cutting up the planks as there too long to fit in the Caddy. Always wearing my branded T-Shirts.

Once home we off loaded and started to clean the wood with a high pressure hose.

My cats off to Rossouw Modern in Hermanus.

Thursday was a lekker day.

I got to drive my Vespa into town, got a haircut, got to hang out with Danilo and talk friendship and food and Lugano and art and business.

But first I gave Hendrik instructions to power clean the Muizenberg Beach hut wood.

Then I packed up some art for the courier as Frans was off sick with the stomach bug that is doing the rounds.

And then I headed into town.

First stop was Rashieqh from ORMS. He is the master at printing. He offered to help me figure out my printer issues. It was great to see him. We both came to the conclusion it was the Print Head.

These modern day printers are so sophisticated and amazing.

Mike Ormrod started an institution. Here is a quick description from Ai:

Orms was founded by Mike Ormrod in 1996. Starting as a small business in his garage in Cape Town before growing into a major South African photographic retailer. Following the initial home-based business, the first formal store was opened in Rondebosch, eventually expanding to locations in the Cape Town CBD and Bellville.

Then I was off to see Danilo to talk Dubai, Lugano and Sardina in April.

Business Lugano style.

Spot the SCOTT's.

After Danilo I parked my Vespa at the Vespa shop and popped in to catch up with Mikey and Tommo. They were in good spirits as always.

Ha, Tommo and Mike, owners of Vespa Cape Town. (This photo was taken when I collected my Vespa and Haircut was done)

Then I popped over the road to go see Yosef for a haircut.

He too was in good spirits.

Before hair.

After hair and wax.

Meet Yosef, best barber in the world. He invited me to his home country Syria.

Then it was off to il Leone to have lunch with Mark Copeland.

Mark was just back from Dubai after a 2 year stint in the Dubai banking space.

Lots of interesting stories were shared.

We toasted to our dear friend Andy and had a great lunch prepared by Daniel.

It was also great to see owner and Chef Daniel and catch up with him as well.

The restaurant was packed which is awesome to see. Business men, foreigners all spending their money keeping the restaurants going.

The men themselves Marc and Daniel. Both Rock Stars.

After lunch I headed home.

It was a hot humid Durban kinda day, so I decided to take the N1 and N7 highways as I didn’t wanna stop start at all the robots.

That was a mistake. I should have taken beach road with the cooler sea breeze. I got home same time as Joanne.

I got stuck into finally trying to sort the printer after Rashieqh gave me some tips. It wasn't working. I found myself talking to the printer as if it was human and could just bypass that small issue and do me a favour and just print out please.

Blah.

I left it for Friday morning as it was already 7pm.

Blah.

Joanne and I played cards and backgammon as it was a beautiful Thursday evening.

Muizenberg Beach Huts drying in the sun.

Evening light really brings out the colours.

Say bye bye.

"Always working Richard Scott", my dear wife Joanne says.

Client mural in the making. Watch this space.

And then: "Why don't you do some valentine pieces babe?"

"Yes dear", as Uncle Stuart would say.

Friday I was up early, 6 am. Coffee, admin and beach run all before 8am.

My diary was empty so it was nice to wonder in my head what shall I to today.

It was a nice feeling until I picked up my notebook.

Gold.

Saturday was our first Saturday morning in 2026 getting back to normal. We slept in, did the beach run and had a delicious simple Joanne Roberts breakfast on the deck. When I Say “Joanne Roberts” is like what’s left over and bring out all the home made pickles and anything in jars in the fridge.

Then we showered and said “GO GO GO” as Danilo was coming for lunch with Manou and Jo, big collectors of my art from Lugano.

It was great to see them and entertain them in the studio. Together they walked out with 10+ new works on their way back home to Switzerland.

Danilo offered to make Carbonara salad with the four lobster tails we had, and it was world class. After the studio tour we enjoyed the Carbonara and then I did the boerewors on the braai and three nice chunks of fillets 3 ways: Rosemary, Black pepper and typical South African Braai spice.

It went down well.

As the Italians do they left early after a beach walk and Joanne caught up with the family and I with my blog.

So great to see the Lugano gang: Me, Joanne, Danilo, Manu and Jo.

Sunday was a chill day. I heated the pool and we just sat and read books. Joanne made me a roasted tomato and pepper sauce for simple pasta for lunch. It was delicious.

So now I am gonna finish off here and get going with the Shombie Bus 7th Richard Scott Charity Auction Catalogue.

German girls have more fun.

Thank you for reading.
