Richard Scott Blog - 7th September 2025

Yeah, The Church is complete.

I will add in some before and after pics at the end of this blog.

Monday was bitter sweet as we were on our last week of renovating Danilo's  Church. We were all in “Touch-up” mode and everyone knows that takes forever and no one wants to do it except the tenacious older, and of course Frans.

Hendrik was man alone on his side as Joseph started a new project on 1 September and Hendrik’s son Nando, had enough.

So basically, it was just Church and more Church.

Cheesy grin as it all comes together.

Hendrik fixing a very dangerous plug. Spot the Scotts.

Me the day before Hendrik got stuck in. I bet you didn't know I can do just about anything.

Frans giving the balcony a 3rd coat of floor sealer.

I did have a brainwave Sunday night, to turn the construction planks we'd used on site into art. Richard Scott Graffiti art. There were six planks, so I could make two artworks.

Getting ready Sunday evening for Monday's Graffiti works at The Church. Stencils and spray paint.

Making the bases out of used construction planks and left over marine shutter ply from the shower roof.

Prepped and Ready.

Frans helping with the base girls in colour.

Monday evening, Joanne and I had a Body Corporate meeting with the trustees of the complex in which Joanne owns a flat. We decided to become more active in our assets and how they are managed.

Tuesday and Wednesday were the same. Final touch-ups. I did get to have some fun with the Graffiti works.

Final touches to Uma.

Signing the art piece.

Zoom Zoom.

Hendrik fixing the basins.

Old and rotten.

Me one hour later after I told Hendrik to remove the shelving from the basin and I rebuilt a new shelf, out of scrap wood, as the old shelf was covered in mould. Richard Scott style.

Having some fun to get a great pic.

Church Girls 1.

Church Girls 2.

I turned this old Milk Box into money.

Hendrik and I decided to do some research and see if we could repaint the tar surface outside The Church. We found a product and did some testing. As we were testing, this guy approached us and said he can do the work for me for R1 500 and a 2lt COKE. Coke is one of the currencies in South Africa. They did an amazing job and it truly added the final touches to our 70 days of hard work. It made my day, week and month.

The tar paint starts out brown because of the bitumen and it turns black after two days. Interesting that it is water based. Who would of thought. The church is looking so so so brand new.

Now we just have to tar the road as well. LOL.

The old sign is also back up after a complete re-build and new perspex front.

Corner view.

Even the fence got a lick of paint. In fact it took about 12 cans of top quality black Graffiti spray paint.

ZOOM ZOOM.

Even the staircase got a coat of paint thanks to Ezlyn.

Thursday morning, I woke up with a great positive attitude, but I had that fuzzy feeling again which was horrible. I pushed on and showered and headed into town with Joanne. I struggled to even focus on my driving. Nonetheless I dropped Joanne and popped into the Church to finish off.

I arranged with Susan, our cleaning service to come in and do a spring clean and we were all done and dusted at 2pm. Chapter closed.

Joanne worked from home Friday so that was nice to get up at 7am for a change. We decided not to run as we were both knackered. I made coffee and started to plan my day as Joanne caught up on Banking and emails.

My Plan was:
1.    Clean the messy studio
2.    Prep Frans when he arrives.
3.    Pack art.
4.    Go fetch the Caddy in Century City.
5.    Drive back home.
6.    Meet Swiss client at 11am. (Swiss time for 11 am is 11.30 am – LOL).
7.    Pack Caddy full of art. (BTW a Caddy is a VW panel van, so yes, I am a man with a white van).
8.    Deliver art and then pick up the two pieces we did at The Church.
9.    Then pop into Ashbey’s and pick up a table for Craig and drop that at Joannes office.
11.    Woodstock brewery for some Moose Hammer.
12.    Drop Caddy off and pick up Toyota and head home.

So, you will be happy to know, my mom mostly, that I have not woken up this week at 2 am to type to you. It is actually Friday evening 19H30 and I am catching up with the blog while Joanne watches Jamie Oliver in all the worlds food capitals.

I did get home today (Friday) to a deliciously cooked Mexican supper Joanne prepared.

Getting some artworks ready. Check the used take-away coffee cups that I am planning an artwork with.

Saturday was beach run, breakfast on the deck, chill, read books, eat left overs and end with a nice evening beach walk.

I did manage to empty the building stuff out of the garage that I just dumped there Thursday. Paint and tools etc.

I also managed to spend an hour in the vegetable garden weeding out the grass and re-poting one of the large worm farms. I am trying a new system where I put them into small CHECKERS sixty-60 brown bags with a hand full of worms and two ice cream tubs of kitchen leftovers. Then perhaps sell them as we are over loaded.

Thinking about a way to involve CHECKERS as the brown bags just end up in landfills. This way they end up in the bellies of worms and then soil for your garden.

Lets see if CHECKERS marketing team notice this.

My Lunch. Joannes Mexican Spicy Bean Rice. I added in some Kachumber salad and Mrs Balls Chutney.

Joanne did Joanne and added Jalapeno's.

How does Chef Bertus Basson say "Simple but delicious". Home made focaccia.

Beach walk. Yes, that sea breeze makes it very cold.

My Beautiful wife and the love of my life. Full moon in the background.

Moon rising in the East and sunset in the West.

Panoramic with our beautiful Table Mountain in the background.

Sunday was another beach run, blog, fire and read books.

It is also my Dad's 83rd birthday today. Happy Birthday Dad.

A photo of Joanne, my mom and my Dad from May this year.

Here are the Before and after pics of the Church as promised:
